In October 2019, the Aldaba Chair "WIB: Women, ICT & Business" was established. The Aldaba Chair "WIB: Women, ICT & Business" was established in October 2019 as a result of collaboration between the Higher School of Computer Engineering at the University of Vigo, the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of A Coruña, and the technology company Aldaba, from which it takes its name. The management will alternate every other year.
Its objective is to boost and enrich the progress of ICT: on the one hand, by promoting greater participation of women in its development; and on the other, by establishing two-way channels between the university and industry.
As an inter-university chair, it also seeks to promote synergies between both Schools of Informatics, propose activities, and strengthen ties.
On the other hand, the Chair promotes the development of activities that help raise awareness of women’s contributions in the ICT field, with the aim of providing role models to spark girls’ and young women’s interest in technology careers, such as the Inspira Steam project.
