On Friday, June 27, 2025, the first session of the tech camp concluded with a very positive outcome, thanks to high participation, the excellent reception from families, the engagement and enthusiasm of the kids, and the dedication of the teaching team, solidifying this third edition as a resounding success.
From June 23 to 27, the Faculty of Computer Science at the UDC and the Higher School of Computer Engineering on the Ourense campus (except for the A Coruña session, which lasted four days due to the holiday) hosted a new edition of the summer technology camp, in which girls and boys born between 2013 and 2019 participated, with “Saving the Earth” as its central theme and title.
The 82 girls and boys who attended the first session—52 in A Coruña (marked by the expansion of the 30 initially offered spots due to high demand) and 30 in the University of Vigo session—received diplomas for their contribution to caring for the planet in the “Save the Earth” mission.
The participants learned, in an engaging way, about topics such as drone training, artificial intelligence, 3D technology, home automation, and robot programming, using “a mission to protect the environment and save planet Earth” as their guiding thread. Participants worked with innovative tools such as LEGO robotics, Arduino, drones, Micro:Bit, Edison, CoSpaces, and 3D design and printing. Thus, with a fully hands-on approach, the campus helped foster creativity, critical thinking, and a commitment to sustainability among its participants.
The objective of this initiative each year is to help “awaken technological vocations in young people at an early age, introduce them to the world of ICT, and help them develop technical skills in a fun way.” Additionally, the camp aims to help increase the percentage of female students in ICT-related studies, as one of the organizing chair’s main challenges is to contribute to gender equality in technology degrees.
The campus, organized by the Aldaba WIB Chair: Women, ICT & Business, an initiative of the Universities of Vigo and A Coruña and the company Aldaba, also has the support of the Social Council of the University of Vigo, thus reaffirming itself as a benchmark space for fostering technological vocations from an early age and as a leading educational program for the summer.
The second session of the camp will begin next Monday, June 30, and will run through Friday, July 4. The ALDABA-WIB Chair thus continues its work to bring technology closer to young people, especially girls—70% of the places were awarded to girls—with the aim of advancing toward balanced representation in future ICT generations.
