On October 5 and 6, the 5th edition of the XoveTIC Congress was held, organized by the ICT Research Center of the University of A Coruña (CITIC). The congress is aimed at junior researchers (doctoral and postdoctoral) who presented oral communications or posters of their research in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The objective of XoveTIC is to create a meeting space for scientific debate and contribute to the training of new researchers.

More than 50 papers on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, high-performance computing, intelligent services and networks, and cybersecurity were presented, and two plenary sessions were held, led by software engineer Sabela Ramos from Google Research and by the Professor of Computer Architecture and Technologies at UCM and president of the CITIC’s SAB (External Advisory Committee).

The congress awards five prizes of €300 each to the projects most highly rated by the scientific committee in areas or lines of high interest and social impact. One of these prizes is funded by the institutional chairs of the Faculty of Informatics, including the Aldaba-WIB Chair.

This year, the work sponsored by the institutional chairs linked to the Faculty of Computer Science at the UDC was presented by Irene González Eiroa of the UDC under the title “Evaluation of Selective Attention in Children thru Digital Teddy: A Preliminary Study,” focusing on selective attention in children, with co-authors Francisco J. Vázquez-Araujo, Paula M. Casto Castro, Verónica Robles-García, and Adriana Dapena Janeiro.
